2017 Range Rover Sport Hse Lux Manual
You Won’t Like. Lackluster interior.
Turbo lag New for 2017 Introduced just last year, the Discovery Sport is still ’s newest model, so changes for 2017 remain limited. The new 10.2-inch InControl Touch Pro display is offered as an option. New driver assistance systems include a driver fatigue monitor, intelligent speed limiter with traffic sign recognition, and lane-keep assist. There’s also a new design package available with upgraded interior trim as well as black exterior accents and 20-inch wheels.
Vehicle Summary Land Rover’s entry-level model, the Discovery Sport is Britain’s contender in the compact sport-utility market and the model on which is based. Overview Land Rover is in the process of realigning its lineup into three groups: luxury models centered around the Range Rover, utilitarian off-roaders around the Defender, and the Discovery family between the two.
The Discovery Sport, launched just a couple years ago, represents a pivotal part of that plan, and is poised to become the brand’s volume seller. Replacing the LR2 (known as the Freelander overseas), the Sport is positioned at a more accessible price point than the LR4 (elsewhere known as the Discovery). In fact, with a starting price of $38,690 including destination, it’s the least expensive model Land Rover currently offers, undercutting the sleeker Range Rover Evoque (albeit by only a few thousand) and priced just above sister-brand ’s compact new XE sedan. Where most of its rivals are limited to five seats, the Discovery Sport features an extra (but extra small) third row to accommodate a couple more kids on the carpool run. This despite its compact dimensions that measure even shorter from nose to tail than a.
Three trim levels are offered in North America, but no matter which you select, you get the same powertrain: a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four sending 240 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Safety The 2017 Sport includes an array of airbags including two in front of the driver (in the steering wheel and knee bolster), another for the front passenger, and curtain and side airbags all around. A slate of trailering systems come standard, with optional safety systems including lane departure warning and assist, driver fatigue monitor, and intelligent speed limiter with traffic sign recognition. What We Think We were impressed by the Discovery Sport’s handling both on and off the road upon our first drive in Iceland – but that involved studded tires. Testing it back Stateside for our 2016 SUV of the Year award, we found the same, but were less than impressed with the interior finish and response from the engine and transmission – shortfalls that from contender to finalist in the selection process., we were less enthused, especially considered alongside the mechanically related Evoque. The Discovery Sport’s rear seats don’t fold flat, the SUV had trouble climbing a rutted hill off-road, and was noisy inside, with too much wind, tire, and road noise.
Cool Fact Land Rover positioned the air intake above the wheel arches and sealed the doors water-tight so that the Discovery Sport can wade through nearly two feet of water – up to the top of its wheels – without flooding either the engine or the cabin.
