It didn't take but a couple years of pretty easy use for the hydrostatic drive unit to start leaking, so I add fluid a couple times in mowing my 1.1 acre field. And the steering mechanism is just plain awful, and an engineer ought to be taken out back and beaten to a pulp - a teeny worm gear with only 1/8' of engagement in the drive gear?? Just plain stupid. So I've replaced the steering rod and drive gear three times, and now the hole in the plate that the steering rod goes into at the bottom is hogged out and won't even hold the gears together properly, so it 'ratchets' and won't turn the tractor. My next unit will be a Deere or other high-end unit, but certainly NOT a Yard Man or MTD or anything else made by them. Sorry, but $1300 is just too much money to throw away on something that could have been done right.
